Game: Chess (Template Chessboard)

  • The Game
  • Chess is a classic game for two people.
  • Chess is played on a chessboard with 64 squares arranged in an 8 by 8 grid. At the beginning each player controls sixteen pieces: a king, a queen, two rooks, two bishops, two knights and eight pawns. The player controlling the white pieces moves first, followed by the player controlling the black pieces.
  • The object of the game is to checkmate the opponent's king, attacking the king immediately (in "chess") and having no way of escaping it.
  • The current form of the game originated in Spain and the rest of southern Europe in the second half of the 15th century. Today, chess is one of the most popular games in the world, played by millions of people worldwide.
