8.8 Help: Problems with Login and Password
Edumaps Tutorial Edumaps🧩 Which situation applies to you?
-
How was your account created?
🧩 Problems with registration?
🛠️ For admins:
Managing student and teacher accounts
- Admins can set the email and password for every student and teacher account in the list of all accounts.
-
Typical admin support:
-
- Correct an email address, e.g. after typos or a change of address.
- Reset a password when users have forgotten it or can no longer log in.
-
Procedure for admins:
-
- Open the account list.
- Select the affected user.
- Set the correct email and a new password (communicate via your school/organization).
- Inform the user about the changes.
-
Where do I get the admin account?
-
- For school licenses, the admin credentials were sent by email.
- For district licenses, your Medienzentrum holds the login data for your school.
- For state licenses, your school received the credentials by email (e.g. from the ministry of education).

👤 Worked as a guest (anonymously)
-
You contributed to a map but can no longer find your content or log in.
-
- Check whether you participated as a guest at the time. When using Edumaps as a guest, “Anonymous" is displayed in the top right and no user account exists.
- Guest contributions are linked to the device and browser. They are no longer accessible on another device or after deleting the browser data. The contributions themselves remain on the map, but their association with you is lost.
- It is not possible to transfer them to an account afterward.
- Recommendation: Register and work while logged in from now on. This ensures that your contributions remain permanently associated with your account.

♻️ Error: "A user with your email already exists"
-
This error message only appears when using single sign-ons such as Edupool, VIDIS, IServ or Moin.
-
A: First possibility: You already created an Edumaps account in the past, either by registering directly or by booking a course with your email address. An account with your email address therefore already exists and the single sign-on does not work.
-
B: Second possibility: The single sign-on was used in the past and a user account was created with the transmitted email. Our server checks whether the transmitted identifier is already in use and which email is assigned to it. If the identifier was changed but the same email is still transmitted, the single sign-on does not work.
-
Solution:
- In both cases, generate a new password on the password reset page. Then log in with this password. Afterwards, go to the single sign-on management page and activate the matching SSO.

🔓 Forgot your password
-
You forgot your password and can no longer log in.
-
Solution:
-
- Use the password reset page. You will receive a recovery link by email. ⚠️ This is only possible if a correct email address is stored for your account.
- After logging in, you can set a new password at any time on the change password page.
- If you have a student or teacher account and no email is stored, your admin can reset the password.

📬 Email from Edumaps not arriving
-
An email from Edumaps (confirmation, invitation, or password reset) does not reach you.
-
Possible solutions:
-
- Check your spam folder.
- Try an alternative email address from a different provider. If the email arrives there, your mail server is blocking our emails. Ask your mail administrator to put our domain on the whitelist.
- You can change your email address at any time under My account.
- For student and teacher accounts, the admin can change the email in the list of all accounts.

🆘 Login without SSO (fallback)
-
If your single sign-on does not work, you can log in to Edumaps directly, independent of the SSO.
-
Solution:
-
- Generate a password for your email (the one stored with your SSO) on the password reset page.
- Log in with your email and password via the login page. An SSO is then no longer required.
- If no email is stored, your school admin can set a new email and password for you.
-
Note on the error "The SSO server rejected it":
-
The SSO configuration is faulty. As an admin, check all entered links for typos (e.g. in IServ) or contact your Medienzentrum or the SSO provider's support.
-
Note on the error "Edupool without school number":
-
Ask your Medienzentrum to enter the school number on the Edupool side. Until then, use the login with email and password.

- Allow cookies for edumaps.de in your browser. Without cookies, your login session cannot be saved.
- Exit private or incognito mode and log in using a normal browser window.
- If you are using Edumaps embedded within another platform, open Edumaps directly in a separate browser tab instead.
- Check that the date and time on your device are set correctly.
- Test the login on another device.

🔐 Problems with two-factor authentication (2FA)
-
You have enabled 2FA. When logging in, a code is requested by email, but it does not work.
-
A: The code does not arrive
-
- Check your spam folder.
- Use the "Resend email" button. A new code can be requested every 60 seconds.
- Didn't receive an email?
-
B: The code has expired or was entered incorrectly too many times
-
- Each code is valid for 10 minutes. Simply request a new code.
-
C: No longer have access to the email inbox
-
- If your school uses Single Sign-On (e.g. IServ, VIDIS, Moin), log in through it. SSO login works without a code. Then disable 2FA under My Account and enable it again with a current email address.
- Without SSO access, contact us via the contact page. Provide your username and server.
-
Tip: For 2FA, use a private email address that you can access permanently, not your school email address.

⌨️ Username or email was entered incorrectly
-
Possible solutions:
-
- Are the username or email spelled correctly? Check capitalization, spaces and typos.
- Log in with the email address stored for your account instead of the username. If no error or a different error appears, the account exists.
- Did you enter a wrong email when registering? Log in with your username and change the email under My account.
- Contact your admin. They can find your account in the user management and change your email and password there.
