In Germany, two linden species are native: the small-leaved linden and the large-leaved linden. However, the two can cross naturally, so mixed forms of both species exist.

Today, both linden species occur in most regions of Germany.

Because it tolerates a lot of shade, the European beech would naturally dominate most forests in Germany. Beech wood is hard and highly valued in furniture making.

Birch species are deciduous, summer-green trees or shrubs. They are among the very fast and tall-growing woody plants and can reach heights of up to 7 meters after just six years.

There are two native oak species: the pedunculate oak and the sessile oak.

Oaks above all need light, which is why they, like many other light-demanding tree species, are eventually displaced by beech.

The pine is a very robust tree species that places only low demands on nutrient supply and tolerates drought and heat just as well as icy cold.

The Norway spruce has a high water requirement, tolerates relatively much shade, and naturally occurs here mainly in mountainous regions.

Originally from Madagascar, it grows to a height of 8-10 meters. It has a parasol-shaped crown made up of feathery green leaves. The flowers are magnificent and form very dense clusters in spring.
