Edumaps offers several AI-supported features, for example creating maps from a topic or your own text, changing map and box content with AI, AI analysis of a map, and AI language courses.
This page transparently explains how your data is handled in this context.
This page is a supplementary short information sheet. You can find the full data protection information in our Privacy Policy. When used in schools, the school or the school authority is responsible under data protection law; Edumaps processes the data on their behalf.

The AI features use OpenAI's GPT models via the Microsoft Azure OpenAI service (Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited).
- Processing takes place exclusively in EU data centers, with the server location in Sweden.
- No global deployment is used; the region is regularly reviewed and documented.
- The Azure infrastructure is ISO 27001 certified.

Only the text necessary for the respective request is transmitted, for example your entered topic, your pasted text, or the content of the map or box that you want to have edited.
We do not transmit:
- User names and account data
- Email addresses
- IP addresses of users or their devices
Transmission takes place with TLS encryption via a secured server-to-server interface. Direct access from end devices to the AI interface is technically excluded.

For providing the AI response, inputs and outputs are processed statelessly. Edumaps does not use Azure functions for permanent storage of chat histories or files.
Microsoft carries out abuse monitoring. Content identified as potentially abusive may be stored for a limited time and, in certain cases, reviewed by authorized Microsoft employees. For models provided in the EEA, these reviewers are located in the EEA. Details can be found in the official Microsoft documentation on abuse monitoring.
Content that you then add to a map or box is stored there like regular Edumaps content.

The transmitted content is not used to train the AI models. Microsoft documents this in the official Azure OpenAI documentation.
Inputs and results are not accessible to other customers and are processed in isolation.

Do not enter any personal data in AI dialogues, for example student names, grades, or health data.
The AI dialogues point this out at the relevant places. If existing content is transmitted to the AI, Edumaps additionally requires explicit confirmation that it does not contain any personal data.

There is a data processing agreement between Edumaps and Microsoft in accordance with Art. 28 GDPR. Processing takes place entirely within the European Economic Area.
Schools and school authorities conclude a data processing agreement (DPA) with Edumaps, which documents the AI function including the technical and organizational measures. Evidence of the Azure configuration is part of the DPA.
