Edumaps for Publishers and Media Providers
Teachers turn your media into lessons and build learning maps, quizzes and AI tasks around them. The school’s license continues to apply.
A video in the media library is not yet a lesson
Many of your media items are already available to schools through the media libraries of districts and education authorities. A film can be shown in class without leading to any further learning activities. Edumaps adds the teaching layer to your media item: tasks, questions, structure and follow-up work.
What Edumaps makes of your media
Learning map
With one click, the teacher creates a map with your media item embedded in it. Tasks, materials, assignments and the students’ results then grow around it.
Quiz
From the title, description and keywords, the AI module generates a quiz on the media item. The teacher reviews and adjusts it, the students work on it directly in the map.
Topic map with AI
The AI module builds a complete topic map around your media item, with explanations, tasks and further study. There is no limit, every item can be the starting point as often as needed. The teacher reviews the suggestions before using them.
Within your license
For licensed titles, Edumaps shows metadata only: title, description, preview image. Playback runs through the school’s existing license with its district or education authority, which Edumaps checks before anything is played. For licensed titles, your media files are not stored on Edumaps servers and are not copied. The AI module also works with the metadata only, never with the media file.
Edumaps grants no additional usage rights to your media and does not replace any distribution channel. Access to licensed content still requires a valid authorization of the school. AI-generated tasks and explanations are supplementary teaching materials by Edumaps, not editorial content of your company, and are labeled as such.
What this means for you: teachers get more ways to work with your media, without your media files being passed on.
Who this is for
- Publishers and producers whose titles are licensed through districts and education authorities (for example via Edupool or Bildungsmediathek NRW)
- OER projects and providers of open educational media: content under CC BY, CC BY-SA or CC0 appears in the Free Media Library, which every user can search after signing up for free. Author, source and license are shown for every item, and adaptations follow the terms of the respective license. No agreement is needed.
- Educational institutions with a media collection of their own that they want to bring into lessons through Edumaps
The Free Media Library currently offers over 12,000 media items, including over 3,000 videos. They include content from Siemens Stiftung, ORCA.nrw, mebis Tube and Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung.
On the Edumaps servers for Hesse, Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia there are over 50,000 media items each, because content under CC-NC licenses is available there as well. On the open server www.edumaps.de, such media are deliberately not offered.

Send us a title
Name one of your titles. We will build an example map with a quiz and tasks from it and show you how your media item can be used in class with Edumaps. The title is all we need for the example map, no technical integration or contractual agreement is required. Only you receive the map, via a link. It is published only with your consent.
The example map is free of charge and without obligation for you. Edumaps does not sell media and takes no commission.
